We’ve put together the answers to the questions we hear the most so you can get the information you need 24-7. If we haven’t answered your question here, please give us a call. We’re always happy to help.
How do I pay the fees for the classes and activities that require payment? And how much do I owe?
We’re glad you asked! Please see the School Fee Schedule for the associated fees. You may pay using this convenient payment portal.
Are cell phones allowed on campus?
Yes, but with restrictions. You can use your phone before school, during the five-minute passing periods, at lunch, and after school. During class, keep your phone put away, turned off/silenced, or in the teacher-provided holders. If you violate this policy, expect your phone to be confiscated with escalating consequences for repeated infractions.
Where can students and parents check grades?
Check your grades through PowerSchool! This is the platform we use for viewing schedules, monitoring grades, and tracking attendance throughout the year.
Does the school enforce a dress code?
Yes, here are the basics:
- Tops must cover your chest, abdomen, and underarms.
- Bottoms must cover your buttocks.
- Wear appropriate footwear.
The SSHS dress code prohibits clothing showing private parts, displaying offensive content, promoting drugs/alcohol, covering faces, or demonstrating gang affiliation.
Can students drive to school?
Absolutely! If you’re a licensed driver, get a parking pass from the front office and display it visibly in your front windshield. Seniors, you’ll park in the north lot. All other students should use the south lot by the bus garage. Remember: don’t park in areas with green painted curbs between 6:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
What should students do if they are going to be absent?
Have your parents contact the school to excuse your absence for valid reasons (illness, medical appointments, family emergencies, etc.) within two school days. If you need to leave during the school day, check out at the attendance office. Be aware that unexcused absences may result in truancy notices and affect your eligibility for school activities.
How can a student make up missed work?
You have up to two weeks to make up an ‘Incomplete’ grade from the previous quarter before it automatically becomes an “F.” Your teacher must sign off on the grade change with your counselor.
What if a student needs schedule changes?
- Fill out the change form from the front office.
- Make an appointment through Maria in the front office.
- Bring your signed form to your counselor appointment.
- Keep in mind that schedule change options are limited because of class sizes and scheduling constraints.
